Mycostop controls effectively damping-off, wilt and root diseases caused by seed and soil borne Fusarium, Alternaria and Pythium fungi. The preparation is used preventively during the sowing, potting and planting phases. Promotes the growth of the root system and increases yield even in healthy crops.

Approved for organic production. Suitable for an integrated control program.

Active ingredient: Carefully selected Streptomyces K61 ray bacteria isolated from Finnish Sphagnum peat.

Instructions for use

Seedling production of vegetables, ornamentals and herbs: Mix into the substrate (1-5 grams/cubic metre) or drench after seedling emergence with Mycostop water suspension (2-10 grams/100 sq. metres).

Greenhouse vegetables:  Drench, spray or apply via drip irrigation immediately after planting (in rockwool: 5-20 grams/1000 plants, and in beds 2-5 grams/100 sq. metres). Repeat the treatment at intervals of 3-6 weeks.

Potted plants and cut flowers: Drench or spray immediately after potting or planting (2-8 grams/1000 plants, and in beds 2-5 grams/100 sq. metres). Repeat the treatment at intervals of 3-6 weeks.

Dry seed treatment: Treat seeds before sowing with Mycostop powder (0.5-0.8 grams/100 grams of seeds, lettuce 0.2 grams/100 grams of seeds).

Treatment of bulbs and corms:  Soak for 15 minutes in 0.01-0.02% water suspension of Mycostop before planting. 

Cuttings: Dip in 0.01-0.02% Mycostop water suspension before planting or sticking

In addition to being used to repel root diseases, both practical and research experience has shown that Mycostop reduces the occurrence of powdery mildew, e.g. when cultivating saintpaulia and other plant crops susceptible to powdery mildew. Mycostop’s capacity to control powdery mildew is based on its property of inducing the plant’s own defence system when applied through the roots and in this way it inhibits the occurrence of powdery mildew.
Mycostop can be used on garlic by dipping the cloves of garlic in a 0.01% water suspension of Mycostop for about 15 minutes just before planting them. This treatment is effective in controlling garlic diseases such as those caused by the fungus genus Fusarium. The same treatment is suitable also for onion sets.
The Mycostop powder needs to be added first into a small amount of water, e.g. 0.5-1.0 litres, and this is then allowed to stand for about 30 minutes. This procedure enables the microbes to become activated and for the powder to thoroughly absorb water. After half an hour, the mixture needs to be stirred and only then is it ready to be diluted to the final volume. If Mycostop is added to the final volume of water in one step, there is the problem of lumps being formed and these are difficult to break up to produce a uniform suspension.
Mycostop’s foremost targets to be controlled are the root and wilting diseases caused by the fungi genera Fusarium and Phytophthora. In practice, growers have also noted Mycostop treatments keep the plant stand in a good condition, especially during periods of heavy crop stress, thereby ensuring good crop production ability. A suitable application rate for tomato on a substrate of rockwool is 5-8 grams/1000 plants. The best result is achieved when the treatments are begun immediately after planting and repeated at intervals of one month.
Biological control of plant diseases is based on prevention. Biological pesticides contain microbes, which are natural enemies of organisms causing plant diseases. Treatments based on biological pesticides should be carried out before the disease problem manifests itself so that the antibiotic microbes contained by them have time to “settle down” in the plants’ roots before the disease-causing microbes arrive. Antibiotic microbes in plant roots or foliage take up the space otherwise occupied by disease-causing microbes and prevent the disease-causing microbes from having an impact on the plant root systems.
Mycostop contains living dried ray bacteria belonging to the genus Streptomyces whose viability and capacity to control plant pathogens are best retained by storing the product at a temperature below +8°C, either in a refrigerator or in a freezer. Mycostop retains its effectiveness for at least one year when correctly stored. Brief storage of about 24 hours at room temperature, e.g. during transportation, does not impair the effectiveness of the product. However, once it is opened, all of the contents of a package must be used at the same time because the Mycostop powder readily absorbs moisture from the surrounding air.
Mycostop is admirably suited for application through drip irrigation. The water suspension of Mycostop can be added to the irrigation system either via an injection pump or alternatively the Mycostop suspension can be poured into a mixing tank. Please bear in mind, however, that Mycostop does not withstand concentrated fertilizer solutions. Mycostop will not pass through filters, and therefore sand filters, for example, must be by-passed when applying a Mycostop treatment.
Mycostop is not harmful to nematodes. It can be applied simultaneously with a nematode treatment, but the suspension of Mycostop and nematodes should, however, be made just before the actual treatment is to be applied so that the organisms involved in repelling fungal infections do not spend a long time in suspension before entering the substrate. In addition to being used with nematodes, Mycostop can also be used simultaneously with other biological control organisms.
Mycostop may be applied simultaneously with most chemicals, although such combined application into the substrate is seldom necessary. Before their simultaneous application, you should first check, however, the compatibility of the effective agent and Mycostop, and also whether there is a recommended application interval between the treatments.
